Shipmans buzzer

 

Shipman's buzzer was tied as a surface fly for Rutlands Reservoir in England. A great buggy looking buzzer that applications anywhere buzzers are emerging.

Materials

Hook Thread Siphons and trailing shuck Rib Body & thorax
Knapek dry #10 to #14 To suit body White antron dubbing Holographic tinsel Seals fur

Process

A
  1. Starting at the 95% position wind the thread to the bend of the hook and then back to the 95% position.
  2. Tease out a long tube of antron dubbing and tie it in at the 95% position and then along the top of the hook shank with enough sticking out behind the hook to represent the trailing shuck and enough sticking out in front of the eye of the hook to represent the siphons.
  3. Tie in a length of holographic tinsel at the bend of the hook.

B
  1. Using the single strand dubbing technique dub a cigar shaped body along the rear 2/3 of the hook shank.
  2. Wind the holographic tinsel forward forming just 3 or 4 body segments.
  3. Load the thread with slightly darker seals fur.

C
  1. Using the single strand dubbing technique build up a thorax over the front third of the hook shank taking care to leave enough space to build a net thread head.
  2. Holding the siphons antron out of the way build a neat thread head, trim the thread and varnish the head.

D
  1. Trim the trailing shuck and the siphons down so that together they are about as long as the hook shank but with the trailing shuck being justa little longer than the siphons.
