Black buzzer

When browns and rainbows are feeding on hatching midges at the exclusion of all else it pays to have a few buzzers in your kit. This pattern has proven itself to be readily accepted in many countries.

  • John Clark:

Nice fly Chatto. How do you fish it? As a point fly and figure 8?

  • Hi John,
Sorry with the late response, I have managed to get preoccupied getting organised for the World Fly Fishing Championships. The black buzzer is a great fly and yes I do fish it on the point. I like it there because it sinks quickly through the water column and then acts as a anchor for my team of flies keeping the leader relatively straight so that there is little loose line in the leader to allow me to miss fish. I would also suggest fishing it on a sixth sense line (braided core rather than mono core reduces stretch and is more sensitive to the feel) on a soft rod (again to increase touch sensitivity) as its important to feel enquiries but to have the soft tip on the rod as a buffer when striking and playing fish.
    Hope this help John.
    Regards,
    Chatto
