Hi Ward,
Any of the buggers are likely to work almost any where at some of the time. Chuffed with your success. It was great to catch up with you at Lithgow and hope to catch up again sooner rather than later.

Hi Dave,
Hope your new vice has arrived by now and your getting into fly tying. A great way to proceed is to do one of the 3 fly tying courses you have access to on the web site. Each course will set you up with a range of skills that will put you in good stead to tie a broad range of flies.
Look forward to hear how you are getting on.
Regards,

Hi Dave,
Sorry about the late reply I have been in competition mode and in particular preparing for the World Fly Fishing Championships which head off to compete in on 19/5/2012. Regarding cottons for bass and salt water flies my preference is Gutermann 100% polyester which my wife buys for her sewing ... she hardly ever notices that a bobbin or 10 have gone missing. There are couple of colours that she does not use so I have to buy myself and they includes olive colour 824, orange colour 350 and purple 718.
Regards,

Hi John,
Exactly right, make your tag end about 20 cm long and you have your dropper. Don't forget to wet you knot before tightening it to avoid friction which weakens the knot. As you have alluded sometimes the droppers get a bit short from repeatedly changing flies or from break off's on snags. When that happens I do as you have suggested and after trimming the shorted dropper back to the knot I tie a uni knot with a long tag end on the bottom side above the knot from the old dropper. Slide the new dropper down to snug against the top side of the old knot and except for the slightly ugly double knot your back in business. I like 4 turn on the uni knot in this case.

Hi John,
Sorry with the late response, I have managed to get preoccupied getting organised for the World Fly Fishing Championships. The black buzzer is a great fly and yes I do fish it on the point. I like it there because it sinks quickly through the water column and then acts as a anchor for my team of flies keeping the leader relatively straight so that there is little loose line in the leader to allow me to miss fish. I would also suggest fishing it on a sixth sense line (braided core rather than mono core reduces stretch and is more sensitive to the feel) on a soft rod (again to increase touch sensitivity) as its important to feel enquiries but to have the soft tip on the rod as a buffer when striking and playing fish.
Hope this help John.
Regards,
Chatto

Hi John,

The podium at the Eucumbene comp will probably be populated by the few anglers that get probably only one fish in all 4 sessions. At this time of year things can be very tough particularly during gentlemen's hours. My suggestions are intermediate to type VI lines fished at the rate that keeps the team off the bottom, fished in water 1 to 4 meters. The actual flies are difficult but with so much midge about it would be hard not to have midge on the top dropper (bibio, dwial bach, black and peacock) and buggers and or damsels on the other dropper and point.

Look forward to seeing you at the comp.

Regards,
Chatto
