The first Bait Caster (AKA Overhead) combo I purchases was a Shimano 6″ 6″ Compre with a Curado CD overhead reel which I set up with 30lb Suffix 832 lime green braid backing connected to a rod length of 20lb fluorocarbon leader with an Albright knot. I particular like fishing with bait casters when fishing vibes or other artificial baits in relatively deep water. Baits can be dropped down to target fish, can then be lifted under control and re-dropped repeating the process. I also like using bait casters when targeting flathead in relatively shallow coastal waters.

Samaki Zing Extreme 6’/7′ with Shimano 100HG overhead reel set u with 20lb Suffix 832 braid backing connected to a rod length of 14lb fluorocarbon leader with an Albright knot with either a #2 Mustard Fastach connector at the business end to make lure, soft, plastic or bait leader connections simple.

SPIN(AKA EGG BEATER-OUTFIT)

I have a range of spin outfits.

To target bream and other scroungers in coastal waters.

I like relatively soft rods with as light a braid backing as I can get away with connected to complementary fluorocarbon leader in the 10 to 12lb range with an overall length equal to the rod length using an Albright knot. Half way down that leader I have a small swivel sporting a .5 meter dropper with the smallest weight at the business end. My preference of hooks for this set up are Mustard Demon “circle” hooks in the 2/0 to 3/0 range.

Jervis Walker 6″ River King (purchased in the 70’s to fish Mullet Creek for bream) Solstace 2500 reel with 10lb grey fluorocarbon connected to 10lb fluorocarbon leader with an Albright knot connected to rod length 9.5lb fluorocarbon leader.

Shimano “Ian Miller” 6’6 2-4kg line weight. Samurai 2500 14lb yellow braid connected to rod length 9.5lb fluorocarbon leader with an Albright know.
