Fortunately for me its less than 40 minutes by sealed road from my front gate to the Buckenderra Holiday Village where I launch my boat. On top of that the launching facilities are fantastic through all seasons and consist of a two or three 'ex-army all terrain treads' that are moved up and down the bank depending on water levels. Each tread is 3.6 meters wide and around 12 meters long so as long as you stay on the tread you wont get bogged. If you don't have access to a boat Buckenderra is still a good location because there is around 5 kilometers of shore accessible from the holiday village.

Finally the key reason I like the Buckenderra arm is that its area holds a good mixture of fishing options and weather options.

The Buckenderra arm is the geographic area south of a line drawn from the tip of Namungo point, Swan Island and Snipe Island.

Starting at the Buckenderra Holiday Village launching area and moving round the arm clockwise my favourite areas are as follows.

Buckenderra boat launching bay

This is a great fishing area in its own right and often holds a good mixed bag of browns and bows. The only reason I don't put much time in there is that there can be a bit of boat traffic and in any case I have access to a boat so I like to leave it for the bank fishos.

Buckenderra to Wainui bank.

There is some excellent water along this shore with several little bays punctuated by rocky and timbered points. Running NE to SE this shoreline as the same aspect as most of the prevailing winds and provides good drift options. If you fish with a a drogue and or electric motor you can get a series of nice drifts from the points into these various small bays. Being small these bays are not trolling options for those that fish on the dark side so there always worth a look particularly if your targeting browns.

Wainui bay

This is a must fish bay and has good fly fishing options at all water levels. It also is well protected from all directions except the east and in any case 'when the winds from the east the fishing is least'. Depending on the wind direction both the north and south shore provide very good drifts with the northern shore being the deepest. Right down at the western end of Wainui there is some very fishy water particularly in late spring early summer when the rainbows school up to gorge themselves on midge and damsels.

Wainui to Snipe Island bank

Very similar options to the Buckenderra to Wainui bank but with the added advantage of including some bigger bays that have big chironomid hatches, along with the attendant concentrations of rainbows, in November and December. the whole shore is well punctuated with structure and supports a good head of resident brown trout.

Namungo Point to pasture bay

This is generally a non-productive area and best left to the trollers. Its deep unstructured and can be quite windy.

Pasture Bay

This is a very deep bay and unless you can get close drifts along the shore targeting browns is probably best left alone.

Brookwood Bay

Has some very nice edges and fishes particularly well when the mudeyes are on during the warmer summer months.
Brookwood is also well protect from the strong N and NE winds. This is a very good option for an evening or night fishing outing as it also has good yabby beds that bring a lot of larger browns in as the sun sets.

Rushy Plain Bay

This is one of the jewels in the crown of the Buckenderra Arm and affords a host of shore and boat based options. I generally focus on the area east of Quall and Plover Islands and regard the south west shores as providing some of the best brown trout fishing options in the whole of Lake Eucumbene.

Midway point to Neriwa Island.

Whilst this water can look pretty good it is generally not very productive at all so give it a miss.

Tom Trys Bay.

This bay only holds water at medium plus water levels and when it has got water in it is an excellent bay to drift for both rainbows and browns. Just enough room here generally for one or two boats.

Neriwa island and south.

This is virtually opposite the Buckenderra Holiday Village and can produce some good browns from time to time all the way down to Try Villas.

Try Villas and Arthella Inlet.

Depending on water levels this can be a great fly fishing option particularly for rainbows. There are a number of sometimes drowned fences here so proceed with caution. Other than both the west shores of Tri Villas and Arthella Inlet I tend not to fish much of the shore from there back to the boat ramp as shore drifts are best and there are always plenty of shore based anglers that object to you drifting over their 'set' lines. If you can get a drift into either of the small western bays in a NE wind there is often concentrations of wind swept food and consequently rainbows mooching around.
