Just keeping you in the loop !

We don't get many days in Central Queensland when we get a break from persistent winds but when they come around it's nice to take advantage of them and target one of my favourite species on fly ... in this case barramundi.

So with winds forecast in the 10-15 km/h range it was an early start and on the water by around 5:30am to take advantage of the moon not setting until around 9:30am. Still took me around another 30 minutes to get up to Futter Creek at the back end of Lake Awoonga and a similar amount of time to scout around to find signs of fish. There wasn't much showing on the sounder but that is often the case when barra are hunting in dense weed but there were a few snub nose garfish uncomfortably skitting about ... a good sign.

What a delight, the winds were as forecast and it was exhilarating working my fly around the edge of the weed gardens and between weed towers in just 1 to 3 meters of water.

The first two fish turned out to be be catfish but the third was this this 80cm barra which scoffed down an articulated-bugger in garfish colours.

Plenty more casts, but to no avail, and then the moon set in the western sky and the wind abated to a glass out. Unfortunately the setting of the moon also saw the last sign of baitfish being under threat from barra and catfish alike but it did give me a bit of time until light winds resumed to have a really good look around.

Certainly will be back up there as soon as there is another day with winds below 20 km/h with a little east in them (to make the ramp safe).

Oh, as usual I was fishing one of my #10 weight Predator rods loaded with a 400grain intermediate line with rod length 30lb Maxima Ultra Green leader.

Tight lines to all.
