Alpha Gar – open/top pour soft plastic

 

I am pretty sure that barramundi take these long thin soft plastics as garfish which are a popular food source for Barramundi.

The Alpha Gar is based on my Hammer Variant with the main difference being it is much thinner.

Like my Hammer Variant as well as a very active tail the Alpha Gar have a good shoulder roll that sways the whole lure from side to side making them very visible to barramundi.

This is a first light to last light bait and always gets a swim when Barra are actively feeding close to the surface and Garfish are their likely targets.

With that purpose in mind I only make this soft plastic in two colours.

The two colour combinations I have settled on are:

 
DAY GARFISH:

  • The body is a very diluted translucent milk colour with silver 3mm shred flex and the back is the same but with a good lacing of blue 0.3mm blue hex fleck and it's rounded off with yellow eyes with black pupils. That combination makes the soft plastic appear mush more like the natural garfish that you often see darting around Awoonga and the salt water garfish that are prevalent in both local estuary and coastal waters.

  • The body is a very diluted translucent milk colour with silver 3mm shred flex and the back is white with a good lacing of silver 0.3mm hex fleck and it's rounded off with white eyes with yellow pupils.
