Barramundi – soft and hard vibes

 

Vibes area unique type of lure and some of the retrieves you can achieve with a vibe include after a long or short cast they can be swum back to the angler at different speeds, they can be dropped in difficult terrain such as next to a tree or other structure and then fished vertically or can be hopped back the the angler with or without pauses of any length.

Reel Action Vibes

  1. Fishing involves a lot of terrain where the fish favour structure including rocky headlands and reefs and coral reefs and fishing those areas it is pretty easy to loose a couple of vibes in a session.
  2. With that in mind, where there is structure as described above, I tend to lean toward cheaper vibes. The ones I like best are Reel Action Vibes which work out at about $8 each including freight.
  3. For shallow water I select the 95mm with 20gram of weight and for deep water I go for 115mm with 45grams of weight.

 

Jackall Transam vibe 95mm

  1. The Jackall Transam 95mm weighs 20g and is the first vibe that I caught barra on in Central Queensland and it is still my favorite. It sinks quickly and has a really tight vibration at a range of speeds.
  2. Effective across a wide range of retrieves from vertically vibing through schools of fish or casting over flats and hopping back to the boat, its versatility is its biggest asset.
  3. The only down side to this lure is also a a plus and that is that the trebles are a little on the lite side ... that is offset by the fact that the lighter hooks make it much easier to retrieve the lure when hook on structure. Of course if you don't exploit structure you may miss fish.

Belista Juggenaut

  1. I over-paint my Juggernaut's in two popular barra colours. The first is gold with black bars and the second is black with chartreuse bars. In each case the area where the light shines has two coats of undercoat so the the light is subdued but still faintly obvious to barra.

  1. Maneuvered up or down or held on the hang in front of barra I can see when I have my Garmin's set in "Perspective" mode I can see not only the lure but also moving fish. As long as the barra hangs around I am happy to hold the lure in its vicinity imparting just the smallest of movements with the rod tip. When a barra does decide to feel the offing in its mouth all hell breaks loose ... wow.
