Knots – Chatto’s 2 turn loop knot

This knot is very simple to tie and because of its figure eight configuration is relatively strong. It also has the advantage over the other many other loop knots in that the two parts of line coming out of the actual knot are next to each other so the actual open part of the loop can be as narrow as just the two thicknesses of line. This is my preferred knot to use as the loop at the fly line end of leaders that I am going to use for loop to loop connections.

.

A
  1. Double the line up with a long tag end.

B
  1. Double up the doubled line making sure that the loop out to the right is as long as you want to make the loop in your leader

C
  1. Take the double tag end from the left and wrap it around the base of the lopp.
  2. Take the double tag through the opening of the loop.

D
  1. At this stage you should be able to see the figure of eight configuration of the knot.
  2. Make sure that the knot is neat. If any of the lines have crossed over manipulate them so that the knotted line that runs through the knot is always parallel. If it has crossed over any where in the knot manipulate the line with your fingers until the line is parallel throughout.
  3. Wet the knot and pull it tight.

E
  1. I like to flatten the knot by running it between my fingers from the knot to the tip of the loop and then just squeezing the tip of the loop together so that there is a formed end for the loop to loop connection to sit in.
