Garmin panoptics

Garmin panoptics is a step up from the sonar/transducer fish finding sonar that comes with most Garmin and other brand sonar systems. They all pretty well these days provide you with side scan, forward scan and traditional scan (or their equivalent but by other names for each other brand0.

The step up from the three basic types of visions noted above come by different names for the different brands, and the products are indeed different, but in each case they are a big step forward in the vision and detail that is shown on the screens.

The Garmin step forward was Panoptics and that is what I have in my boat. Panoptics is based on a different type of transducer (LVS32 or the upgraded LVS34 transducers) and that is mounted vertically on a deployable/recoverable pole which is generally mounted toward the back of the boat.

I have set out below the set up steps for the Forward scan and Down Scan Panoptics options.

GARMIN PANOPTICS - DOWN SCAN

Garmin added a further panoptics screen option a couple of years ago called Perspective mode. Setting that up involved software upgrades to comparable Garmin Sonar software and adding a mounting bracket between the mounting pole and the LVS32 or LVS34 transducer so that the transducer can be presented either vertically for Forward and Down scan or with the aid of the new bracket the transducer can be mounted horizontally providing 140 degree fan shaped view in the direction the transducer is being pointed on the mounting pole covering a range of distances and depths.
