Recycling a damaged 115mm vibe

Just thought you might like this.

This photo is of a soft plastic vibe that has damage to its tail from it being stored badly. Damage to the soft plastic parts of a vibe can happen in a number of way but bad storage is the most common.

  • So, what I have done in this situation is I have removed the hooks and their swivels and will used them in the finished replacement vibe when I make it.
  • Then I have carefully cut the weight and other central hardware out of the vibe taking care to leave the body intact so it can be used as part of the template for the plaster of Paris mould.
  • Unfortunately, as you can see from the first photo, the tail was damaged beyond use so I decided to use a couple of small grub tails off soft plastics that I have from many years ago as replacement tails.

Then I have organized the body of the original damaged vibe and the two soft plastic grub tails as the form work to make a open/top pour soft plastic mold. I have included two locator holes in the mould for the two hook rings to stick through. When complete that where the two trebles will be connected.

Once the mould was finished I have heated the mould and the central hardware that I removed from the original damaged vibe and 3/4 filled the mould with hot liquid plastersol and straight away, with the help of pliers, maneuvered the central hardware into place.

OK its not as good looking as the original vibe but it was a great way to keep myself entertained on yet another windy and wet day.
