Egg flies

Egg sac fly

Around 50 days after eggs have been lay sac fry hatch. These fry are poor swimmers because of the sac and consequently the imitation should be fished amongst the rubble on the stream bed or on the dead drift. Fish them under an indicator and respond to slightest irregular movement in the indicator in the same way you would if nymph fishing.

Lead head egg fly

This is a very effective fly for fast water because it sinks fast and the placement of the lead shot gives the fly a propensity to ride point up reducing the incidence of snagging. It can be used on its own just to bounce along the bottom or to sink a second fly such as a second egg fly or unweighted nymph. The other really good thing is fish accept it readily.

Booby egg

Basically a booby but without the body and tail. Suspend them off a bomb . . . lead heads are probably the best because they sink quickly and are cheap and easy to tie.

Egg

Egg or roe flies are tied to imitate eggs that have been dislodged from their 'reds' and are are drifting down a stream. Weighted versions can be fished alone or in conjunction with an unweighted nymph or egg fly and unweighted versions are generally fished in conjunction with lead shot or some, a weighted nymph or some other form of weight that will get them to bounce along the bottom of the river.
