TBH / CDC river jig bugger – brown

This tungsten bead head / cul de canard river bugger is one of a series of six 3.5cm bugger variants that I carry for those occasions in rivers and still water where I need a small very buggy looking fly to either fish alone or in a team.

In rivers they lend themselves to being swung down and across shallow water or to being swum down where the fish are holding in deeper pools. They also work well in a two fly Euro Nymph style team.

In still water they are a great option fished alone at any depth to nervous fish and are an ideal middle dropper or point fly in a team of two or three buggers.

With a marabou tail and a CDC front hackle they swim with plenty of movement enhancing their buggy appearance and of course the use of jig hooks mitigates snags on weed and bottom structure.

I carry each of the colour combinations in two sizes:
Size #12 which carries a 3.0mmm faceted slotted tungsten bead
Size #10 which carries a 3.5 mm faceted slotted tungsten bead

And I tie them in six colour combination:

Silver black and red MKII
Gold olive and orange MKII
Metallic red bead silver rib and black body and tail
Silver bead black silver rib and black body and tail
Metallic orange bead gold rib and brown body and tail
Copper brown bead copper rib and brown body and tail
Metallic pink bead copper rib and hares ear body and tail
